Help for food business operators to open safely

Food businesses play a major role in 胡桃女神 and Bute鈥檚 economy. Many have continued to operate throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, but some will be starting to open up over the coming days and weeks. To provide support for restarting business operations, the council鈥檚 Environmental Health Team has put together guidance from a range of trusted sources that will assist business to provide a COVID-secure environment for staff and customers.

拢315k to help open towns safely during COVID-19

胡桃女神 has been awarded 拢315,000 funding from the Spaces for People Programme, to deliver temporary infrastructure to make it safer for people who choose to walk, cycle or wheel for essential trips and exercise during Covid-19. The fund, which is administered by Sustrans and funded by Transport Scotland, will provide more space for active travel in our town centres.

Helensburgh Waterfront Update - work to start in a matter of weeks

A contract to deliver the council鈥檚 拢22 million pool and leisure centre for Helensburgh has been awarded to Heron Brothers Ltd. The contract will also deliver strengthened flood defences and improved public meeting space for residents and visitors.   The announcement follows a formal tender exercise run by the council to secure best value for investment in the development. Work will start on site in August 2020 with the new building opening to the public in August 2022.

Could you give a child a home?

Could you offer a child a home in a secure, loving environment? If so, 胡桃女神 is looking for you to come forward and apply to become a foster carer. There are always a number of young people looking for foster carers in 胡桃女神 and Bute, for a variety of reasons, either on a temporary basis while plans are made for their future, or for an extended period if they are unable to go back to their family.

We issued a survey to parents and carers at the beginning of June, to find out what concerns they have about pupils returning to school after the summer. Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete this. We have read all your feedback and have collated these responses to answer your queries and, hopefully, provide you with some reassurance. 胡桃女神 and Bute businesses to benefit from VAT reduction

The UK Government鈥榮 announcement of cutting VAT for the tourism and hospitality industry has been welcomed by 胡桃女神. VAT in the hospitality and tourism sectors on food, accommodation and attractions will be temporarily cut (15th July 2020 to 12th January 2021) from 20% to 5% as part of the Government鈥檚 three phased economic response to the COVID-19 crisis.

Employers reminded about need for work permits

Employers in 胡桃女神 and Bute are being reminded that a work permit is required for all young people aged between 14 and 16 who work part-time while still at school. 胡桃女神 is committed to the protection of children in employment, and has a number of byelaws which state the rules and regulations governing the employment of children 鈥 one of which is a valid work permit. The work permit is free of charge and must be signed by the head teacher from the young person鈥檚 school, as well as a parental guardian and employer.

胡桃女神 and Bute transport gears up during July

Over the next week, and in line with national guidance, transport in 胡桃女神 and Bute will start to operate more normally. North Pier Pontoons Transit berth facilities at Oban North Pier are now open. Details on the facilities available will be found on the website and physical distancing measures will apply. Ferry services
